Celtic* (Cooperation for a European sustained Leadership in Telecommunications) is a EUREKA cluster and the only European R&D programme in ICT fully dedicated to end-to-end telecommunication solutions. Celtic initiates and runs privately and public funded ICT/ telecommunications R&D projects. It is supported by most of the major European players in communication technologies. Celtic projects are focusing at telecoms networks, applications, and services looking at a complete end-to-end system approach. The size of the Celtic budget is in the range of 1 billion euro. Celtic projects are open to any kind of company and organisation from all EUREKA countries.
Celtic organizes on an annual basis its so-called "Celtic Event". So far Celtic Event has been organized at Dublin, Berlin, Helsinki, and Paris.
The main objective of the Celtic Event is to show the current status, the available achievements and the impact of the running Celtic projects. Furthermore, the event is considered as an excellent opportunity to show the state-of-the art of the telecommunications development towards integrated next-generation telecommunications and multimedia systems for seamless use across mobile and fixed networks.
The scope of the conference is to bring together key players from industry, research, public authorities, and politics to present and discuss the current evolution of the Celtic Initiative and its running projects. In several high-level presentations future evolution scenarios in next generation telecommunications networks, services and systems from end-to-end shall be presented. The current achievements and future perspectives of Celtic and the directions of the future telecommunications will also be discussed.
The Celtic Event will be organised in three main parts:
As the separate event, but generally linked to the Celtic Event, the Information Day gives an opportunity to present and discuss new project ideas and to find possible new partners to build a new project consortium for a proposal.
