E2B A – Energy Efficient Building Association is an International Non Profit Association that has been created to significantly contribute to the achievement of the ambitious environmental challenges set by the European Council of 2007 for 2020 and 2050. As buildings are responsible for 40% of the total European energy consumption, the construction industry has a large role to play in the task of making the world more energy efficient with a target to reduce energy consumption by 20%, reduce C02 emissions by 20% and provide 20% of the total energy share with renewable energy by 2020.
E2B A’s vision is that all European buildings are designed, built or renovated with high energy efficiency making buildings and districts energy neutral by 2050. In order to reach these goals, the European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP) has proposed a Europe wide industry driven research and demonstration initiative on energy efficient buildings and districts. Being seen as a major contributor to European Research, it is proposed as a European Initiative on Energy Efficient Buildings, E2B EI.
E2B Association, which is operative since November 20th 2008, has been created by a group of industrial stakeholders who has joined their forces with the aim of paving the way for the launch of a PPP on Energy Efficient Buildings. E2B A will represent the private part of the future Joint Undertaking.
E2B EI has been identified by the EC together with “Factories of the Future Initiative” and “European Green Car Initiative” as one of the pillars of the Economic Recovery Plan of Europe. The goal of the Energy Efficient Buildings programme during the period 2010 - 2013, financed jointly by industry and the European Commission under FP7, is to introduce green technologies and develop energy-efficient systems and materials across the construction sector at large
